Peter Ferguson fra New Zealand vant det første VM-løpet på Bergen Travpark. Han plasserte Keith R. i andre par utvendig. Mot den siste svingen kom han opp utvendig for lederen. På slutten var det ingen som kunne følge Peter Ferguson.
Peter Ferguson from New Zealand won the first Championship race with the horse Keith R. Placed second outside Ferguson attacked with 600 meters remaining. When Keith R. and Ferguson entered the final stretch it was clear that no one could challenge them.
Eirk Høitomt fikk maks uttelling med Mist. Han satt i tredje par utvendig. Angrepet ble satt inn på oppløpet, men Mist hadde ikke all verden å by på. Gareth Rattray galopperte inn i mål som tredjemann.
Norwegian Eirik Høitomt placed his horse behind Ferguson and Keith R., and attacked on the final stretch. But Mist did not have much to offer. Gareth Rattray and Alfons Crown went off stride when passing the finish line.
